Veneers

Your teeth are an important feature of your mouth, responsible for numerous essential daily tasks. They enable you to bite and chew your food. They control airflow when you speak. Your teeth also provide you with a beautiful, confident smile. Even minor damage can impact the appearance of your teeth, which can then, in turn, affect your confidence. At Timothy H. Kindt, DDS, we can restore minor imperfections in your teeth with veneers.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shell-like restorations that are designed to cover over the front portions of your visible teeth, effectively covering over minor imperfections and restoring your smile. They can transform the appearance of your teeth, altering their size, their shape, and their color. With your teeth restored, you can smile confidently once again.

What Are Veneers Made Out Of?

Veneers can be made out of either composite resin or porcelain. Both materials provide an excellent aesthetic fix, perfectly matching the color of your natural teeth. Porcelain, however, is stronger than composite resin, and often lasts longer. This material also more closely mimics the color and light ]]]reflection properties of your natural enamel.

What Issues Can Veneers Correct?

Veneers can be used to correct a variety of different minor dental imperfections, including:
•  Small chips, or cracks, that only affect the enamel layer of the teeth.
•  Small gaps between your teeth.
•  Minor overlapping. If your teeth are slightly overcrowded and do not affect your bite or your oral health, veneers can help to cover these teeth.
•  Discoloration. Veneers can be used to correct discoloration that cannot otherwise be corrected with tooth whitening.

Placing Your Veneers

Placing your veneers is a fairly straightforward procedure, and takes two visits to complete. First, we use a local anesthetic to numb the area. We then remove a small amount of enamel from the affected teeth. This makes enough space for the veneers to sit in naturally with the rest of your teeth.

After the enamel is removed, we then take impressions of your mouth. These impressions are sent to our lab and are used to create your customized veneers. It can take up to two weeks for your veneers to be ready. In most cases, temporary veneers will not be needed, but they can be provided to maintain aesthetics.

When the veneers are ready, you will return for your second visit, during which we will apply the veneers to your teeth. After the teeth are cleaned, an acid etch is used to create a rough texture on the enamel. This texture aids in providing a stronger bond. The acid is washed away, and the teeth dried again. Finally, the veneers are set in place using specialized dental cement.

Benefits of Veneers

•  They look just like the rest of your natural teeth, and blend in perfectly.
•  They can be used to cover a variety of different minor imperfections.
•  With the appearance of your teeth restored, you can smile confidently once again.
