My Baby Doesn't Have Teeth Yet. Should I Be Worried?
Posted on 11/15/2023 by Weo Admin
If you have a new baby, you have tons of things to worry about, but your new baby's teeth shouldn't be one of them. The amazing news is that there is no set age for babies to begin to get their teeth. Here is some guidance for new parents who are worried about when their baby might get their first teeth.
Milk Teeth
Babies get their milk teeth, which are also called baby teeth or deciduous teeth, usually between the ages of six months and one year. There are outliers on either side of this estimate. Some babies are born with teeth, which are called natal teeth. These teeth are usually small, with tooth roots that are not fully developed. Your baby may lose these shortly after they are born. Other babies may not get their milk teeth until they are past their first birthdays.
Most children will have around 20 baby teeth, and they will start to lose them beginning around six years old. The older your child is when they first begin to get their teeth, the older they will be when they begin to lose their baby teeth.
When Should I Take My Baby to the Dentist?
Many people believe that you don't need to take your teeth to the dentist until they cut their first tooth. However, if your baby is close to their first birthday, it is time to make an appointment with a dentist, whether your baby has a tooth or not. A dentist can take a look in your baby's mouth, take some x-rays, and answer your questions about oral hygiene for babies. The X-rays will show the baby teeth or milk teeth that are lying underneath the gumline that you are not able to see just by looking. It's a great way to make sure your baby's dental health is perfect.
