Why Those Twice Yearly Dental Checkups Are So Important

Posted on 1/2/2024 by Weo Admin

You may not think your dental checkups are as important as your yearly physical, but your dental health can impact your physical health. Here are some reasons dental checkups are vital.

Teeth and Your Heart

Many people know they need to keep their teeth and gums healthy, but they do not know why. If you brush your teeth after every meal and you floss your teeth twice daily, you help keep the bacteria in your mouth down. While the bacteria can be helpful as a part of your food digestion, too much bacteria can cause both gum disease and tooth decay. Gum infections can cause your teeth to fall out, but the infection itself can travel to your heart and cause heart disease, especially in your valves and heart muscle.

Blood Sugar Regulation

Tooth decay and gum disease cause issues with your blood sugar regulation. If you have diabetes, you may have more difficulty regulating your blood sugar if you have either severe tooth decay or significant gum disease. That is because both tooth decay and gum disease lead to inflammation in your body, and any inflammation makes it more difficult to regulate your blood sugar.

Cancer Screening

If you use tobacco, you are at risk of developing oral cancer. While the word cancer is a terrifying word, oral cancer can be treated quickly and easily the earlier you discover it. Dentists are able to look for any signs of oral cancer each time they examine you. If you keep up with your teeth cleaning and dental exams twice a year, any abnormal cells can be checked and removed if necessary. The more regular you are with your dental checkups and cleanings, the better your overall health will be.

What our patients are saying about us
"The first thought that comes to mind for this dental office is "kindness". Perhaps the Kind in Dr. Kindt's name was meant to be! Dr. Kindt and his staff offer the very best in dental care. I recently had extensive cosmetic dental work done and am delighted with the results. The great thing is that people notice my lovely teeth and I get lots of compliments when I smile. I consider Dr. Tim an artist when it comes to dental work. In addition to beautiful work the next best thing is that during hours of extensive work I experienced NO discomfort or pain. The final results combined with the utmost care for my comfort make it easy for me to give this dental office a five star rating." ~ Elaine S.
