Drinking Fruit Juice Is Just as Good as Eating Fruit, Right?

Posted on 3/1/2024 by Weo Admin

However, fruit not only provides vitamins and minerals your teeth and gums need but can also keep them clean and healthy. Here are some reasons drinking your fruit might not be as good as eating it.

Why Do I Need to Consume Fruit Anyway?

Some people are not fans of fruit, but fruit is one of the food choices that can improve your health, not just your teeth and gums. Many fruits contain powerful antioxidants, such as vitamin C, that can help your body fight off inflammation and increase blood flow. Fruits also contain B vitamins and folic acid, which do everything from helping with headaches to eliminating birth defects such as spina bifida. Also, many types of fruit, such as apples, act as natural toothbrushes. These fruits have roughage that can help clean your teeth and gums in between brushing.

The Problem With Drinking Your Fruit

If you drink fruit, such as fruit juice, every once in a while, it is not a huge issue. However, if you are only drinking fruit juice rather than consuming whole fruits, that is a problem. One of the main reasons you need to eat fruit is for the roughage. Roughage contains fiber, and that is good for your digestive system as well as your teeth. Also, when you consume fruit juice, the juice you are consuming may have a lot of added sugar. The added sugars in some fruit joists are not natural sugars; they are refined sugars. All of the sugar in fruit juice can cause bacteria to grow, leading to cavities and gum disease. Instead of helping to prevent cavities, by drinking your fruit rather than eating it, you may be adding to your dental issues!
