Cavities can form seemingly out of nowhere for many people. It is estimated that the vast majority of adults in America have had a cavity at some point or another; 90% in fact. And knowing the signs yourself can help you catch cavities on your own to get them treated sooner rather than later. Here are key signs to tell if you have developed a cavity in a tooth.
Sensitivity or Pain When Touched
Have you noticed increased sensitivity in a certain tooth? Do drinking hot or cold beverages irritate this spot? Does it hurt to bite food? This could be an indicator that a cavity has formed. Many people don't realize they have cavities when they have formed, but some are able to find out based on this alone.
You Feel ™Empty Space™ On Your Tooth When You Run Your Tongue Across It This is probably the most obvious way to tell if you have developed a cavity. If you feel a ™dent™ or a hole in a tooth while the equivalent tooth on the other side of the mouth doesn't have this feeling. It is most likely a cavity if not a chipped/broken tooth. Regardless if it is either, it is important to get it filled before it develops into a worse situation such as an infection or a far bigger cavity that turns painful.
They Are Visible
We recommend that people take a peek in their mouths in front of the mirror once in a while. This can allow you to catch certain problems that you otherwise wouldn't have known about. Assuming the cavity has formed in a relatively visible area of the mouth, and it has grown large enough to easily see, catching a cavity this way is definitely grounds to get it treated as soon as you can.
