Which Dental Health Problems Could Become Deadly?

Which Dental Health Problems Could Become Deadly?Sometimes a dental problem may seem harmless but lead to more significant issues if it is not treated immediately. That is why you need to see us every six months to have your teeth checked and professionally cleaned. Waiting too long between dental visits can cause health-threatening issues. That is why you should make it a habit to see us twice yearly to have your teeth examined and make any subsequent appointments for fillings, whitening, or restorations, such as bonding.

Dental Health Problems that Lead to Major Oral Health Issues

Decay may attack the teeth initially, only creating small holes or cavities. However, just like a crack in a window, a cavity will get bigger over time. When this happens, you may experience serious tooth problems that can lead to an infection called an abscess. When this happens, you cannot avoid dental services anymore. You need to have the infection treated, or it can lead to a complete turn of events - events that can trigger the condition, sepsis. If this happens, you can get sick reasonably fast, as sepsis can cause the systems in the body to break down. Again, you can completely prevent this from happening by scheduling regular dental appointments.

Signs of a Severe Dental Infection

If you have an infection or swelling in the form of an abscess, a pus-filled sac will form at the infection site. When the sac breaks, you will experience pain relief. However, you still have not treated the infection. Therefore, the infection can spread to other parts of the body and ultimately cause them to break down. You probably have an abscess if your gum and jaw are swollen and your tooth is sensitive to sweet foods or hot and cold temperatures. Severe dental infections also are defined by halitosis (bad breath), a foul taste in the mouth, gum recession, and inflammation. In some cases, the patient will not notice any obvious symptoms at all.

Always contact our professional dental team if you have a fever, jaw swelling, or gum bleeding and inflammation along with tooth pain. Do not delay the treatment, in these cases, as you can experience far worse symptoms later.
