Water Flossing vs. Traditional Flossing — What Is the Difference?

Posted on 1/10/2022 by Alyce
Water Flossing vs. Traditional Flossing — What Is the Difference? The best dental habits are ensuring that you remove food particles trapped in between your teeth. To this end, there are two ways to do this including Water flossing and traditional flossing. These are effective solutions for removing food particles and plaque, leaving your teeth clean. Many people do not understand the difference between water flossing and traditional flossing. At our clinic, we always educate our clients regarding effective dental hygiene techniques.

Traditional Flossing

Traditional flossing uses a specially made string to remove food particles located between your teeth and on your gum line. Typically, you use an 18-inch-long string, and run it through your teeth, removing particles from the surface of teeth. Dentists recommend doing this at least once daily for proper dental health.

What is Water Flossing?

Water flossing is an alternative to conventional flossing. You remove food particles in between your teeth using a hand-held device that runs a steady stream of water. It is an effective solution for people who have dental works such as braces where the traditional flossing string is problematic to use. You can also use water flossers if you find holding the traditional string challenging.

Benefits of flossing

With flossing, you can keep tooth decay and cavities at bay. You can floss anywhere, at work, school, on the bus, or in the park. This is true with traditional flossing. Water flossers need to be plugged in and can therefore limit the locations where you floss. Traditional flossers are also small and portable and you can carry them wherever you go.

Remember to maintain your regular dental clinic visits. At the clinic, you will receive important information that will go a long way in ensuring that you have optimal oral health.

What our patients are saying about us
"The first thought that comes to mind for this dental office is "kindness". Perhaps the Kind in Dr. Kindt's name was meant to be! Dr. Kindt and his staff offer the very best in dental care. I recently had extensive cosmetic dental work done and am delighted with the results. The great thing is that people notice my lovely teeth and I get lots of compliments when I smile. I consider Dr. Tim an artist when it comes to dental work. In addition to beautiful work the next best thing is that during hours of extensive work I experienced NO discomfort or pain. The final results combined with the utmost care for my comfort make it easy for me to give this dental office a five star rating." ~ Elaine S.
