Do I need a root canal?

Posted on 3/21/2022 by Alyce
Do I need a root canal?A root canal procedure involves removal of infected pulp in your tooth cavity. You will need root canal therapy if your pulp has been damaged. This might be caused by acid eroding the enamel, the enamel exposes the dentin which protects the pulp that holds the blood vessels and nerves. The exposure of the pulp causes sensitivity of the tooth especially if it is exposed to cold or hot temperatures.

Swollen and Dark Gums

Dark gums might mean that the gums are decayed and that the tooth is decayed and dead. Swollen gums can be a sign that you have an infected tooth. Swollen gums will be tender and will be painful when touched. When the gums change they become so painful you will need a root canal to remove the dead material from the tooth and restore the health of the gums.

Severe pain

If you experience severe pain while you are exposed to either cold or hot temperatures, then this means that you need a root canal procedure. This means that the tooth is decayed and the pulp cavity is infected, infection of pulp cavity means that the blood vessels and nerves are infected too. Severe toothache needs a dental check-up and does not hesitate to see the dentist if you experience too much pain.

Abscess

If the dentist conducts a dental x-ray and discovers an abscess which is a dark spot this might mean that you do need root canal therapy. This abscess is a hole that develops in the jawbone since a bone does not grow on any infected area. During a dental visit, the dentist will checkup for it and determine if you need root canal therapy. Visit our dental practice to know if you need a root canal procedure.
