Multiple Tooth Replacement with Dental Implants
Mesa, AZ

Your teeth are important, and taking care of them is essential for keeping them healthy. However, sometimes tooth loss happens. Teeth may go missing as a result of gum disease, facial trauma, or other issues. Even the loss of just a small section of teeth can have a significant impact on the health and appearance of your mouth, as well as your overall quality of life. Sections of missing teeth can make it more difficult to properly chew and digest food. It may become harder to speak. Your smile may be altered, which can diminish your confidence. Missing teeth can also impact the health of your jawbone, causing it to grow weak and change shape. At Timothy H. Kindt, DDS, we can restore sections of missing teeth (along with the functions and aesthetics of your mouth) with multiple tooth dental implants.

Traditional Replacement Options

Traditionally sections of missing teeth are either replaced with a fixed bridge or a partial denture. Fixed bridges, which consist of a replacement tooth set between two dental crowns, are used to replace up to three missing teeth. Partial dentures, a removable prosthetic restoration that consists of teeth set into a gum colored base, are used to replace four or more missing teeth in a section of the mouth. The base is supported by the gums, and the restoration also has metal clasps that help anchor the denture in place. While these options can replace basic functions and your smile, they cannot stop bone loss in the jaw.

Replacing Multiple Teeth with Dental Implants

Multiple tooth dental implants, sometimes call an implant supported bridge, provide an alternative to the traditional bridges and partial dentures. Unlike other replacement options, a surgical procedure is required. After administering a local anesthetic (and sedation, if necessary) incisions are made in the gums to expose the bone. Holes are drilled into the bone and small titanium rods are placed. The number of rods used for your specific multiple tooth implant depends upon your specific circumstances. Once the implants are placed, the gums are sutured closed. Temporary teeth are placed, which provide some function while you heal.

Healing can take up to several months. As you heal, we monitor your progress. During this time, the bone fuses to the titanium, turning the rods into stable supports for your permanent replacement teeth. Once you have healed, abutments (connectors) are placed on the implants. Impressions of your mouth are taken. These impressions are used to create your custom permanent teeth. When they are ready, they are secured into place with screws.

Multiple Tooth Implant Benefits

Multiple tooth dental implants offer many benefits. Some of the most obvious benefits are that they restore the functions of your teeth, as well as your smile. Properly fused, implants are strong and stable. They are more comfortable than traditional tooth replacement options, as your teeth are supported by the titanium rods rather than adjacent teeth or your gums. Implants are easy to care for. One of the greatest benefits of multiple tooth dental implants, however, is that they stop the bone loss that typically follows tooth loss. This prevents changes in the shape of your jaw as well as your face. Because your jaw does not change, your replacement teeth do not need to be periodically replaced, making them a permanent solution for your missing teeth.

With multiple tooth dental implants, we can help to restore the functions and appearance of your mouth and prevent the bone loss that typically accompanies tooth loss.
